The Challenge
Security and trust-and-safety teams need to understand how identical video evidence generates contradictory narratives in real time — especially when misinformation is spreading faster than fact-checking. When the same visual evidence produces opposite factual conclusions, standard content moderation approaches that rely on fact-check flags are structurally too slow.
The Minneapolis ICE shooting created exactly this environment: a high-emotion event involving law enforcement, immigration policy, and use-of-force — each of which independently activates high-engagement partisan frames. The speed at which competing narratives hardened created a narrow window for meaningful intervention.
The Approach
Rolli IQ applied Topic Tree analysis to map the narrative landscape for each individual involved in the incident. Five distinct narrative categories emerged for each person: victim/hero framing, villain/threat framing, institutional critique, comparative incident invocation, and media criticism.
The platform detected that identical footage was being simultaneously cited as evidence for two mutually exclusive factual claims about who initiated violence. Emotional intensity metrics were tracked in real time — running far ahead of any factual consensus, confirming that emotional amplification was outpacing information verification by a significant margin.
Misinformation pathways were documented: which accounts first introduced each competing claim, which platform clusters amplified which version, and the velocity at which each claim reached non-partisan audiences. The full map was delivered within hours of the event — before any major fact-check was published.
